The Eighth Day of Christmas
Mary's "Yes" changed the world.
As we celebrate the 8th day of Christmas, the season of joy and light continues to unfold. Christmas isn’t just a single day—it’s a season that reminds us of God’s deep and abiding love. Each of these twelve days is a chance to reflect on the miracle of Christ’s birth and the ways that love shows up in our lives today.
For me, this reflection often leads to the work I do at the Cecil Hotel. Just as the Christmas season invites us to carry the light of Christ into the world, the residents of the Cecil remind me that God’s love is especially present in the places and people often overlooked — whether a manger, or a sojourn in the desert. Walking alongside those who are rebuilding their lives, I see the same hope and resilience that shines through the story of Christ’s birth—a story of light breaking into darkness and of new beginnings.
Today is also the Solemnity of Mary, Mother of God, when we honor Mary’s courage and faith. Her “yes” to God was a leap into the unknown, much like the leaps of faith we witness in those at the Cecil striving for a better life. Mary’s example encourages us to trust in God’s presence and to be part of God’s work in the world, especially among those most in need.
As we continue this joyous Christmas season, we are inspired by Mary’s courageous “yes” to God—a moment of profound faith that brought hope and salvation to the world. Her willingness to embrace God’s call challenges us to say our own “yes” today.
Like Mary, we are invited to be instruments of love and light in a world longing for hope. By saying “yes” to acts of kindness, service, and generosity, we reflect God’s love and make a lasting impact.
Will you say “yes” today? Your donation helps us bring hope and healing to those in need, shining Christ’s light brightly in the world. Together, let’s answer the call and carry that light forward.
